Healthy Movement Evaluation™

Is your movement good or bad for your health?

Just as your posture can be good or bad for your health, the way your body moves can be good or bad for your health. It may surprise you to know that your movement has a stronger effect on your health than your posture does.

Why is it important to know?

Good movement is also right, or correct movement. Correct movement is smooth, fluid, balanced and enjoyable. It keeps your body young. It protects your body in many different ways, makes your daily activities easier to do and prevents injuries, stiffness and chronic pain. A good example of completely correct movement is ‘being in the zone’.

Bad movement is also wrong, or incorrect movement. Incorrect movement is clumsy, jerky, disjointed, unbalanced and unpleasant. It ages your body before its time. It causes posture problems, stiffness in the muscles and the joints, balance problems, joint injuries, weak muscles, chronic pains, pulled tendons and ligaments etc. Incorrect movement is the most frequent cause of RSI.

What happens if I don’t have good movement?

Incorrect movement will cause some muscles, joints and other parts of your body to get tight, stiff and stuck. The places that are stuck will stay stuck, and more places will get stuck over time. The places that are stuck will develop problems from not moving enough, and the surrounding areas will develop problems from moving too much. Over time you will accumulate a growing number of places where your body moves in unhealthy ways. It will gradually become more difficult to move and the number of aches and pains will increase. We tend to blame “aging” for this, but it is actually the result of incorrect movement habits. Extreme restriction in movement will affect the proper functioning of your internal organs, lung capacity, digestion etc.

What are the benefits of making sure my movement is correct?

There are many benefits including prevention of injury to the muscles and joints, healing of old injuries, relief from aches and pains, improving balance, breathing and strength, slowing down of the aging process, and many other benefits for both the short and long term. Some examples from my experience working with clients: improvement in performance for professional athletes, relief from pain after knee replacement surgery, teaching a child with brain damage to walk, relief from scoliosis, improved posture and range of motion for a 76 year old with arthritis in the neck, greater confidence for speaking in front of an audience, etc. The best is to ask me about your particular situation.

Will stretching on a regular basis work?

In most cases stretching will not prevent bad movement habits from developing, and in some cases it will make things worse.

Why can’t I feel these places in my own body?

Most people can’t feel the places that are stuck. This is because of the way the muscles and the nervous system work. It is like a habit that you no longer notice because you are so used to it. We tend to notice only the unusual, special or exceptional tensions, or the ones that make our daily life more difficult or unpleasant. All others tend to go unnoticed.

How can I find out if my movement is correct or not?

You can find out if your movement is correct or not, by getting a complete Healthy Movement Evaluation™. A full evaluation takes about 20 minutes and is done in standing, sitting, and lying down on the back, belly and sides. In each of these positions the movement of key areas in specific directions is tested to determine the state of your body.

How can I get rid of bad movement habits and develop good ones?

You can do this by taking three important steps:
First step: get a full Healthy Movement Evaluation™.
Second step: have a professional work on your body to teach it to move correctly.
Third step: learn exercises to do at home that will keep your body moving correctly.
The exercises are designed to feel good and be easy to do.

Self-testing:

Take the simple test below to find out if it will be good for you to come for a full evaluation.
  1. Do you have chronic pain anywhere in your body?
  2. Are you stiff when you get up in the morning?
  3. Does pain develop during the day anywhere in your body?
  4. Do you have regular stiffness in the neck, shoulders or lower back?
  5. Do you have limited capacity in breathing?
  6. Do you often experience low self-confidence?
  7. Do you suffer from anxiety regularly?
  8. Do you have problems with digestion or elimination?
  9. Are you a performing athlete or artist wanting to improve your skills?
  10. Do you suffer from Repetitive Stress Injuries?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it means that you have some movement habits that are bad for your health. You will benefit from a full Healthy Movement Evaluation™.
