Greetings!
This newsletter is being
resent with corrected dates on the Concrete
class. In Chinese medicine, winter is the
season of the water element: a time for
personal reflection, conservation, warmth,
resting, gentle and nurturing exercise. Our
modern world has taken us away from this attitude
and pushes us to extend ourselves during this
season instead of going within which is what
winter calls for us to do.
Due to clever and successful marketing
techniques, this time of year is now known as cold
and flu season. In the interest of supporting
independent thinking and year-round health, we
would like to offer you a reprieve from this
mindset.
At Sugi Health and Fitness, you will find a
vast array of tools for changing your mind (not
being over-influenced by mass media) and for
taking action to keep the blues and flus at bay.
Join Ofer for the Meditation Class
Series starting in late January to find better
ways to deal with stress, fear and anxieties, to
increase patience, and to improve the ability to
relax and feel good.
Deepen your journey into healing and join Amy's
Embracing Change - Breaking Free of Family
Patterns or A Course in Miracles
workshops also beginning in January.
Coming soon! Len Saputo's Comcast TV
(Channel 26) program, Pioneers in Health
Care will be featuring an interview
with Ofer Erez. Keep your eye on this program,
Mondays at 11:00 p.m. PST. We think it will be
aired in December, we'll let you know when we have
a specific date.
We are continuing to expand
our website to make it more valuable to you. We
have added PayPal so you can now register
online with credit cards for classes and
workshops, gift certificates and training
programs. This is new for us, so please notify us
if you have any questions or difficulties with
this process.
Amy is looking for a large, carpeted
room that would be available for holding
evening classes in. If you know of anything
available in the Pleasant Hill area, please
contact Amy at 925.934.3120.
Help us welcome in the New Year! Join us for
a potluck on January 10 starting at 4:30 p.m..
This is also an opportunity to experience and
practice Reiki. Reiki practice will end by 8:30
p.m.

Concrete Floors - the Pain They Cause and
What You Can Do About It
|
|
"When your feet hurt, you
hurt all over."
Are you suffering from
pain in your feet, legs, hips and/or back?
Do you work on your feet all day?
Are concrete floors ruining your life?
Dr. William Scholl, designer of the Dr.
Scholl's foot product line, often commented,
"When your feet hurt, you hurt all over."
Most businesses have replaced the wood
floors from 50 years ago with concrete, which is
damaging to the lower extremities because it
provides minimal resistance and no shock
absorbency. In 1983, the American Podiatric
Medical Association reported that 83 percent of
the U.S. industrial work force had foot or lower
leg problems resulting in discomfort, pain or
orthopedic deformities. It is becoming obvious
that the percentage of employees that have foot
and lower leg pain is increasing because of the
longer standing requirements on the cement
flooring. Complications can evolve into problems
in the knee, hips and back.
So, what can you do about it? Come to this
two hour class and learn self-help techniques
and exercises for keeping the body mobile
before, during and after a long day on your
feet. This mobility will increase your body's
ability to adjust in a challenging situation.
Also, learn new attitudes to support you in
getting the environment you need for a healthy
body and mind. Discover natural, non-invasive
solutions to your pain.

Breaking Free of Family
Patterns
Have you noticed a
repetitive behavior in your family? Are they
attitudes relating to intelligence, gender,
race, or age? Perhaps manifesting as being a
victim or a bully, guilt or blame, helplessness
or arrogance, depression or anger, physical
illness or eating disorders, manipulation or
indifference. What's the skeleton in your
family's closet? Or the elephant in the room
that no one talks about?
Embracing Change - Breaking Free of Family
Patterns is a course that offers the opportunity
to identify and break free of these long-term
attitudes and patterns of behavior. Our work
together will tap into the inner workings of the
soul and what you have come here to learn. The
course will provide you with a new definition
of self and identity based on the genuine
expression of your deepest spirit instead of
your family's old baggage.
The course will include the use of flower
essence therapy, artistic expression, Reiki,
journaling, reading assignments, movement to
remove physically stored patterns and other
tools for self-inquiry, support and
understanding.
Course dates: Jan. 31, 2009 - 11 a.m. - 4
p.m., Feb. 28, March 28, & May 2 -
1p.m. - 5
p.m. $320 Attendance is
required at all four Saturdays.

Understanding Mind and Body
Relationship
During the dormancy of
winter, the celebration of light and
spirituality is seen in the winter holidays of
Hannukah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. A lovely
extension of that focus is to connect
consciously with the spiritual center of the
crown chakra.
The seventh or crown chakra offers us a
direct connection to the Divine. When we are
feeling dis-spirited and alone, feeling a lack
of faith as so many are during these changing
times, awakening the seventh chakra is very
important. Gaining clarity in the crown
chakra is necessary in order to deepen faith,
and uncover the quiet voice of divine
guidance, shining light out of darkness.
Violet, the color of the crown chakra,
is very popular these days so it should be easy
to find an example of it for your imagery. This
is a great exercise for answering questions or
simply cultivating a deeper sense of listening
to the voice of the inner divine. Here's the
December exercise, enjoy!
Sit or lay quietly in a comfortable
position. Take a moment to scan through your
body and notice where tensions are being held.
Draw in a full, leisurely breath. Allow the
breath to expand through your whole body. Now,
another full breath. Notice any colors or
feelings that arise with each breath.
With the third breath move your attention
slowly from the base of the spine (tailbone) all
the way up, vertebrae by vertebrae, to your
head. Move your awareness slowly through the
head to the crown.
Open the crown of your head by sending a
breath past the line of the skull, lightly
blowing through the skin and hair above and
extending toward the sky. If you begin to feel
too vulnerable, allow a smaller opening to
appear and surround the rest of yourself with a
glowing white light.
Send a cone-shaped ray of violet light up
through this opening and observe what you feel.
While maintaining this state of peaceful
openness, ask your Higher Self (God, the Great
Spirit, Mother Earth) a question or simply allow
yourself to be open to inspiration. Take a few
full breaths allowing yourself to absorb the
knowledge of divine inspiration. (This can be
experienced through any of your senses.)
When you feel complete, draw the violet
light back inside yourself. Complete the circle
of white around you over the top of the head.
Sink your awareness down the spine returning
to the base. Take a deep breath, check in with
your body and slowly open your eyes.
There are many ways to view the relationship
between the mind and body. They are an
intertwined expression of the deepest parts of
ourselves. We like to encourage people to become
aware of the ways that the body reflects our
personal issues, as a reflection of what we feel
and our attitudes in life. This awareness can
assist us in gaining a deeper understanding of
our experiences as cause and effect. The
different parts of the body also carry symbolic
expression.
