Flower Essence Therapy
|
|
In herbal medicine, nature's plants provide us
with herbs and medicines for easing many
physical ailments. The abundant flowers in
the plant world offer us sustenance for the
spirit.
We all have behavior patterns and attitudes
that hold us back in life. The vast variety
of flower essences available helps us to
address our personal issues and move forward
by releasing old patterns and forming new,
stable ways of expressing ourselves.
Mustard, which blooms abundantly at this time
of year in California, is one of the classic
flower essences formulated by Dr. Bach in the
1930's.
Mustard releases us from overwhelming gloom
and despair. The uplifting quality of the
mustard flower returns us to a state of
balanced joy.
Flower Essence Therapy readily complements
any other form of therapeutic intervention
serving as a wonderful adjunct to
psychotherapy, massage therapy or western
medical approaches to health care. To find
out how you can personally benefit from
Flower Essence Therapy, call Amy at

Understanding Mind and Body Relationship
With the economy right now many people are
feeling threatened in the field of work. The
third chakra, at the solar plexus, is an
important power center to cultivate during
rocky times. An imbalance in the third chakra
manifests as feeling powerless, striving to
overachieve, being overly controlling or
feeling like you've lost control,
experiencing self-doubt, and feeling
completely stressed out. When the energy
flows smoothly through this center, we have a
positive relationship to the outside world,
experience self-confidence especially in work
environment, and feel calm and secure within
ourselves. The color of the third chakra is
yellow and the day it is associated with is
Wednesday. To open and balance the solar
plexus chakra, do the following exercise:
- Sit on a chair with your feet flat on the
floor at a 90 degree angle to your knees.
- Place the hands lightly on the knees or
thighs, comfortably. Close the eyes.
- Focus inwardly in the area of the solar
plexus, the soft spot where the ribs meet at
the bottom of the breast bone.
- Notice any sensations present there -
churning, tension, butterflies, nausea,
fullness or emptiness?
- Now observe if you experience a color -
what color, dark or light, bright or dull?
- Take three deep breaths by pushing the
belly out as you inhale and emptying the
belly completely when you exhale. Repeat
three times.
- Now, notice any changes in color or
sensation.
- Return your attention to the breath,
adding a vibrant bright yellow into your
inhalation.
- With the exhalation, send out of your
body the old color and sensations.
- Repeat the breaths with color, observe
the changes and gently open your eyes.
There are many ways to
view the relationship
between the mind and body. They are an
intertwined expression of the deepest parts
of ourselves. We like to encourage people to
become aware of the ways that the body
reflects our personal issues, as a reflection
of what we feel and our attitudes in life.
This awareness can assist us in gaining a
deeper understanding of our experiences as
cause and effect. The different parts of the
body also carry symbolic expression.

Red Veggie Surprise
|
|
This is a dish that was born of that time
between the last of the winter vegetables and
the beginning of spring vegetables. If you
have fresh greens on your beets (see photo),
wash, chop and add those, too!
1 large parsnip, cut in sticks
1 small onion, chopped
1 large beet, cut in sticks
1 bunch asparagus, cut in pieces
1 large carrot, cut in sticks
1 Tbsp. sesame seeds
1 ½ Tbsp. sliced almonds
1 ½ cups boiling water
¼ cup dry vegetarian chicken broth
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1. Sauté onion in oil for 2 minutes.
2. Add parsnip, beet and carrot for 2
minutes.
3. Add boiling water mixed with chicken
broth.
4. Bring to a boil.
5. Simmer for 10 minutes.
6. Meanwhile, roast seeds and almonds in an
iron skillet, stirring constantly, for 2-3
minutes or until fragrant and lightly
browned.
7. Add asparagus to veggies.
8. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
9. Sprinkle seeds and nuts on individual
servings.
